AIR FOIL FUME HOODS

Designed to reduce turbulence, air foil fume hoods have a gentle slope on the bottom front air foil to reduce exterior air patterns and increase lab safety.

To minimize turbulence, the Airfoil Fume Hood features a 45-degree angle around the fascia and a flush-mount radius airfoil across the bottom which also increases performance.  Like the exterior of the hood, the airfoil is made from chemical-resistant, powder-coated, 16-gauge cold rolled steel.  Five standard sizes offer design flexibility, or we’ll customize to your specific needs.  A stainless steel airfoil is available.  Posts are 5” wide.

How Air Foil Fume Hoods Work

When correctly designed, an air foil will prevent new air patterns from sucking the contaminants at the front of the hood, out into the laboratory air.  To ensure the air foil does its job, spacing under the foil should be about one inch, and the slope of the foil should be between 20 and 30 degrees. More extreme slopes and more space under the foil can result in an air roll.  When designing your air foil fume hood, it’s also important to consider the material of the foil. Materials include regular steel, stainless steel, and a variety of stainless steel/specialty coating combinations.
