How Walk-in Fume Hoods Work

The requirements and intended use of the laboratory are the key considerations when setting up a walk-in fume hood. Because the floor and the hood entrance are usually at the same level, both floor drainage and barrier controls are core determinants of how to go about preventing harmful contaminants from entering the laboratory environment. Issues associated with air flow at floor level—specifically walking, deflected currents, and air leakage under doors—must be taken into consideration.
